My passion after graduation from
IMS in ’67, was to build and drive a race car. Fast cars and engines are what wound my clock! Several
other guys and I built a car for the local race track, but couldn’t drive it, because of our age. I did, however, drive
a race car in Colorado Springs, where I lived from ’70 to 72, in 1-W service. I married in ’70 and put in
my time at a Catholic Hospital of all places. I drew blood samples from patients for lab tests, quite a stretch for a
country boy mechanic.
We’ve lived in the Kalona area
since ’72. I’ve had several careers, first in a farm equipment business, with my dad and brother. Then as a feed
salesman, and now as an accountant for the University of Iowa. I’ve held several part time jobs in between those three
occupations.
We have four children: Greg
(IMS, 1988) & wife Alida, daughters RidgeLee, 11, and AshLee, 9, Steamboat Springs, CO; Beth (IMS, 1993)
lives in Oxford, IA; Aaron (IMS, 1995) & wife Jolene, daughter Taylor, 2; and Erica, a junior at IMS this
year. I still have the same car I drove to IMS, my ’37 Chevy coupe. Both of my boys
drove it to IMS too. My
wife Sandy and I enjoy camping, fishing, and hiking, wherever there is a campsite and fishing hole. We especially like Colorado,
cause our kids and grandkids live there.
I’m looking forward to
seeing all of you at our 40th IMS REUNION, in 2007. So reserve
a time on your calendar to come, reminisce and tell your story.
