After high school I went to Hesston and Goshen and received a BA degree in music Education. While
at Hesston I met Ethel Grieser and we were married after our junior year at Goshen. I received a MA degree in music
education at Ball State University in 1978. In the fall of 1972, I started teaching vocal music at Oak Hill United School
Corporation where I taught for 32 years. I taught junior and senior high students for 30 of those years and then
added elementary music to my teaching load the last 2 years. I now have a church choir at Main Street United Methodist
which keeps me in music.
We have 3 sons. Brian (33) and his wife Leigh have two children, Katie (10) and Luke (5). Kent
(30) and wife Silva have one son, Alex (10). Our youngest son Sid (28) is not married and teaches at
Elkhart Memorial. Brian is a physical therapist and Kent works at American Tool and Party Rental.
We enjoy traveling. While at Goshen both Ethel and I went to Germay for SST. In 2004 Ethel and
I went to Ireland, Wales and England for 11 days. Ethel still has an administrative position at Purdue University
which enables her to present at a number of conferences. Last May we went to Denmark and Sweden for the International
SI conference.
I keep myself busy these days fishing, gardening and working in my wood workshop.
