Following graduation I went to Jamaica as an exchange student. I
still keep in touch with the family I lived with there.
I attended Hesston for two years and then graduated from Goshen
in 1972. I completed my Masters Degree from Ball State University and taught elementary school for 27 years (2 in Middlebury
and the rest in Warsaw, IN). I married Barry Black in 1981. His son is married to a great Christian woman and they have gifted
us with the best granddaughters possible, ages 5 and 8.
In 1999 I retired from teaching and Barry retired from Biomet, an
orthopedic company in Warsaw. We then started traveling from Florida, Virginia, Ohio, Kentucky, Michigan,
Illinois and Indiana, doing art shows. Barry is a wood carver. (You can check out our website at www.sand-barr.com) Maybe some of you saw us and we didn't know it.
We have had to cancel our shows for 2007 as Barry was diagnosed
with pancreatic cancer on Dec. 15 and started treatment on Jan. 3. Our faith and trust is in the saving power of Jesus
Christ our Lord. He will give us the strength and wisdom to deal with each day. Our family (mine mostly around Kalona),
our church family and many friends have been a great support.
